Our House

Ever since school got out we have been in overdrive. My mom came to visit the day after my last day of school and let me just say that there were clean dishes in the dishwasher, clothes in the washer and dryer, and the house was a mess. The end of the school year is so busy but now it is over! It was a great last day of school but the kids were SO hyper. Next year I will remember the chaos and will not do a camping day without desks in the room. Also, having parents randomly send in treats all throughout the day didn't help. Really, a 2nd grader does not need multiple donuts, drinks, pizza, etc. in one day. They were out of control.

We have been moving our little things to the new house and the big move is this Saturday. Then on Sunday James has a century bike ride. It is nothing but crazy busy here. We also have some work to do on the house, especially the yard. The previous owners were so considerate that they trimmed ALL of the rose bushes and left the stems everywhere. Ouch!! We are also going to do some painting, or should I say that James is going to do some painting.

Another family from our old agency just picked up their daughter from the same orphanage where the twins resided. She had said that she would check on them for us since we think of them often. Well, we found out that they just went home with an American family about a week and a half ago. We don't know how to feel about it. Of course we are happy that they aren't in the orphanage. That would have just broken our hearts. But now we have many questions. We withdrew our petition last July and are wondering after all the problems we had (8 months trying to get an approval) how did another family bring them home, especially with only having 2 months to get a referral (before September 1st). We were also told that when petitions are withdrawn that it takes awhile for them to be eligible for adoption. How could this happen?? I didn't think any other American agencies (besides the agency we were with) did adoptions with this orphanage. Maybe the referral was given out after September 1st because of extenuating circumstances. There were some cases like this, right?

This is so hard but if the family did receive a referral before September 1st and the twins just went home, it means there were problems because it took 7 months to get approval.

We strongly feel like we did the right thing but that doesn't make it any easier. We could have been the family they went home with but we aren't. It was hard hearing the news but we have to believe that we did the right thing. I think I'm in shock right now but am glad they are with a family. That's the important thing.

House

We closed on our house on Thursday. It was a little stressful leading up to the actual closing (James dealt with it more than I did since I was teaching all day) but it all ended up okay. We are excited to start slowly moving things into the house and then we will move the big stuff the first weekend in June. We will post pictures soon!! We don't get possession until today at 5:00 p.m.

We're excited about the long weekend and I'm looking forward to my last day of school on Thursday. If I'm done with all of my check out stuff that day I don't have to go in on Friday! Yay! My goal is to make it to the end of the year party at 3:00 on Thursday and not to have to go back to school.

We are in love!

We were so surprised to hear, "It's a boy." The whole experience was very surreal! We were in the ultrasound room for about 45 minutes and seriously saw every organ and part of our baby boy's body. It was truly amazing. Some things we could really see and some things we just said, "okay, that's the femur." Our sweet baby boy is very active and the ultrasound technician told us that he was very squirmy. It was almost like he was trying to hide. During the ultrasound we saw the profile of his face but he was moving around too much to get really good pictures. His little feet are so cute. The best thing is that his development is perfect, his heart rate is good, and his size is good. He is 12 ounces, the size of a can of soda.

James and I really thought we were having a girl for some reason. Thank you Laurie for the fun name website. We have already spent awhile on it playing around. It's difficult to pick boy names now because we had two that we loved but I know we will find the perfect name by September.

We close on our house next Thursday and will slowly start moving our stuff over to the new house. In the meantime, I'm shopping for a boy. :)

Mommy to be at almost 20 weeks

Even though the baby hasn't been born yet James said that I'm still a mommy to be. He was the sweetest and surprised me early with a Cannon DSLR camera, a sweet card, and a yummy piece of cake. He said that he wanted me to have a chance to learn how to use the camera before the baby is born. We drove up in the mountains yesterday to test out the camera and play around with the shutter speeds. Even though it was a cloudy day it took some amazing pictures. I'm excited to really learn how to use it this summer. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Updates

We are finally done with all the negotiating for the house (after the inspection) and we close on May 21st! At least once every day we say that we can't wait to have some more space. Usually it is while we are both trying to get ready for work in the morning because we both can't fit in the one tiny bathroom. Or, it is when we bump into each other in the kitchen as we are cleaning up, etc.

I'm at week 19 now! It has gone by so fast and I'm almost half way there. We will find out next Thursday if we are having a baby boy or girl. :) I have started to pop. I mean POP! My kids at school like to mention it at least once a day, especially right after lunch. They keep telling me that my stomach is going to grow along with the baby. One said, "Wow, there really is a baby in there. How did it get there?" That kind of caught me off guard and I tried to avoid it by changing the subject. It worked that time.

I hope everyone has a great week. We are going to enjoy the 70+ degrees and sunshine this week. Yay! James is hoping to get into shape before his friend comes from St. Louis in June to do a century bike ride in the mountains. I'm just hoping to get some walking in.

Reasons to Celebrate!

1) We are going to accept a counter offer on a house. Phew... finally!
2) We got to hear the baby's heartbeat today. It was at a perfect 140 beats a minute. It was amazing to finally hear it. We are counting down the days until my next appointment so we can find out if baby C. is a boy or girl. I won't be able to contain my excitement and will definitely share with everyone.
3) I got to see James today/tonight. He has been working almost nonstop since Friday for a major deadline. He got home at 1:30 a.m. this morning and was very stressed about not being able to make the deadline. Because it is truly impossible they got an extension and the higher ups told his team to go home and get some rest.
4) We are going to see my family this weekend.
5) I only have 23 days of school (with students). I'm ready for summer!

17 Weeks

Tomorrow I'm 17 weeks along! Wow, it has gone fast. I will post a picture soon since I definitely have a pooch. I went shopping yesterday because some of my shirts aren't fitting and had a hard time. I'm not quite ready for maternity shirts but the next size up in regular clothes isn't quite working. I'm using the Bella Band and it has worked wonders since I am still wearing all my pants (I can't zip them but I'm wearing them!). I go on Wednesday for another prenatal check-up (my appointment was supposed to be last Friday but they closed the office early due to the snow) so maybe we can finally hear the heart beat. Then in 3 weeks we will find out if we are having a boy or girl. We are going to be surprised early! :) I'm feeling so much better now and I actually have energy to take Molly for walks after school. I told my kids at school and many of them said they thought that I was having a baby. I guess you really can tell, especially if my 2nd graders can tell. We might have found a house but we are in the negotiating stages. Keep your fingers crossed.

April Snow

I was hoping for a snow day today but the snow started too late in the day. :( I can't remember the last time we have experienced a spring snow storm in April. The snowflakes were huge and it was beautiful. After work we put on our pajamas and were all geared up to watch some t.v. but we lost our satellite reception. James and Molly had a great time playing in the snow.

Vacations go too fast!

We had such a great time in San Diego a few weeks ago. We finally got to downloading the pictures the other day and it made us want to go back. We are never ready for vacations to be over, especially when we have to go back to work.

Long Week!!

It has just felt like the longest week in the world!! I thought I was feeling better because I no longer had a fever but this cough is stubborn and won't go away. I also am getting headaches from sinus pressure. I may have to go back to the doctor even though I don't feel as bad as I did before. Ugh...

Anyway, really this week has been so long for me? Has it been long for anyone else? I'm so happy that tomorrow is Friday. We did get to go out to dinner with Jen and her family while they were here in Denver and had a great time. Morgan is just adorable. We also house hunted one night with no luck. We looked at four houses and there was just one thing wrong with all of them. We feel like we are so close to finding one but just not having luck. Keep your fingers crossed for us that we find a house sometime in the next month or two. Otherwise we will have to renegotiate our lease in the tiny house and we want to move before the baby is born. We have no space whatsoever!

Off the Couch.. for a little bit

Wow, I have finally made it off the couch to clean up the house a little bit. I haven't left the house all weekend and have been sleeping, watching bad television, reading, and I signed up for Face book. That's it folks. Molly hasn't seemed the least bit sad about not going for walks or playing. She has been there every step of the way with me. I'm feeling just a tad better but I wouldn't call it good. I have slept really good the past three nights though which has helped tons. I'm still coughing a lot, which probably won't go away anytime soon, and my voice still isn't the best.

Oh yeah, remember the snow we were supposed to get?? The 8-12 inches? Yeah, we ended up with maybe 1 inch and it is gone. The meteorologists have been talking about this snowstorm for a week and nothing happened. People even took extra precautions by postponing flights and even postponing some proms! Oops...

I'm excited for James to get home. If only tomorrow weren't Monday!

Surviving

It has been a rough few days for us because I have been sick and James has been taking care of me. I have been sick since Sunday and it has only gotten worse. On Tuesday I just started feeling worse and worse. I did teach all day and came home with a fever. I took some Tylenol to help my fever and used the Neti pot to help clear out my sinuses. That didn't help. I could barely get up this morning but didn't have the energy to write sub plans for the day. I lost my voice today but at least the kids were sweet to me. It was so hard to teach though. I left school a little early and felt so bad I didn't want to drive home. James took me to urgent care. I don't have a primary care doctor here because I haven't been sick since I have lived here. I tried to find one after school today but had no luck with the first few I called. Anyway, I have bronchitis and the doctor gave me a breathing treatment to prevent me from getting pneumonia. I have an inhaler and am supposed to just continue taking Tylenol. I am feeling a bit better but am still lying on the couch.
James is going out of town this weekend for a guy's trip with some friends from St. Louis. My mom was going to come this weekend but there is another blizzard in the forecast for Saturday, which is the day she was going to fly in. She is going to come another weekend instead. I really don't want to see any snow but hopefully it will be gone soon. Last Thursday/Friday Denver had a blizzard and when we came back on Sunday it was 70 degrees and sunny. I guess I can deal. I'll post vacation pics this weekend.

Sick

We arrived home yesterday, definitely a bit later than anticipated. We had an early flight out (6:30 a.m.). The day was hectic from the beginning. We got a taxi at like 5:00 a.m. and boy did he have a lead foot. I think we made it to the San Diego airport in about 9 minutes from our hotel. When we got to the airport we realized that we had left our backpack in the room. We told the taxi driver we needed to head back. We got the backpack and made it back to the airport in record time. The ride actually made me car sick. Then we had a layover in Salt Lake City and got stuck in the snow for a few hours. After we left the airport in Denver we stopped to pick up Molly. She seemed to be in good spirits until she puked 3 times in the car after leaving the daycare parking lot. Then James and I got sick to our stomachs. Luckily I had one extra day off today and have been sleeping on and off. James felt good enough to go to work but he did have to leave work to come take Molly to the vet because there is no way I could have driven her. We did have a wonderful time in Cali for spring beak but I'm sad that I can't ultilize my last day off to unpack, laundry, etc. Oh well. We had such a great time and will post pictures soon. Hopefully I feel good enough to be with 2nd graders tomorrow.

We Missed the Big One!

We are having so much fun in sunny San Diego! It is a beautiful city with so much to do. I told James that if he ever gets transferred to California it would be okay with me. Don't get me wrong, we love Colorado, but who can beat 60's and 70's year round? It just so happens that we are here in California while they just had the first blizzard of the season back in Denver! Our friends said the snow was coming down at something like 3 inches an hour and apparently the whole city was basically shut down. We aren't sad we missed the big one!

Our Little Jumping Bean

We went to the doctor last week hoping to hear the baby's heart beat but she couldn't find it so we ended up getting another ultrasound. As soon as she started the ultrasound our cute little plum (soon to be peach) jumped. It was so cute and now the baby no longer looks like a gummy bear.

We told the rest of our friends in St. Louis last weekend and had such a fun weekend. The whole weekend almost felt like a race to see how many people we could see before heading back to Denver. This past week really has been no different. Boy am I glad it is spring break! The week was full of meetings, a sick dog, James working obscene hours, and crazy kids at school. There was even a countdown of the hours left of the day in the faculty bathroom. I'm going to relax, catch up on some sleep, get some new clothes (I'm already using the band from Target), and we are going to San Diego on Wednesday. It's just going to be nice to have a little time.

We went out to a nice dinner and had time to actually talk and relax. I'm feeling better now and am still up at 8:44 p.m. on a Friday night!

Grateful

I haven't been feeling too good lately with lots of indegestion and just feeling exhausted. By the end of the day I just don't want to hear my name anymore and all I can think about is getting home to the couch and snuggie! It should get better anytime though. I'm going to the doctor this coming Friday and we get to hear the heartbeat. We didn't get to hear it with our ultrasound last time. James has been the best husband I could ever ask for! One night I was craving something to drink besides water, milk, or orange juice, so he went to the store and brought home all five flavors of a low calorie sport's drink. He actually went to the store a few nights in a row to get me things. He has been stressed out at work and working a lot of overtime but he still comes home with a smile on his face and caters to my needs. What a great guy!

We are headed to St. Louis this weekend after the doctor's appointment. We are excited to see family and friends. I'm just trying to make it through this week and really it is a short week for me. Only one more week of school and then I get a spring break. I hope it gets here fast.

We are putting an offer in on a house tomorrow morning and we just can't wait to get our baby stuff out and start nesting.

Houses

We have finally decided to expand our search area to the suburbs. With baby C on the way we are thinking that we need some space. We were searching in a beautiful area of Denver with older homes. We finally came to reality when we looked at the last house in this area. The house was more than we wanted to spend and didn't meet our needs at all. It claimed to have three bedrooms; however, the third bedroom was in the basement. Let me say that it was a scary basement with huge white pipes hanging from the low ceiling. We are going to have a lot of family and friends visit and I couldn't imagine sticking anyone down there to sleep. The first floor of the house was georgous but still small. It also only had one car garage without a garage opener. We thought about baby stuff, bikes, etc., and realized there would be no room for storage. We have decided on the suburb where I teach because it is only 11 miles from Denver and James's commute won't actually be much longer since the bus will take the HOV lane. We looked at some homes last night and we loved one of the houses until we realized that the kids from the subdivision would go to my school. I'm not so sure I want that. So, we are going to continue looking in other subdivisions that don't feed into my school. One of my friends from college moved to Denver a few years ago and we are hoping to find a house in her neighborhood. We are going again this weekend and hopefully we will put a contract on a house. I want to move before I'm huge and it's hot! It will be like Christmas all over again when we get to sort through our stuff from the garage. We have a lot of baby stuff and I'm excited to see what we have!

Our Story

We hope you liked the slideshow surprise! We were very surprised and thrilled to find out I was pregnant. It still doesn't feel real. We went for an ultrasound a few weeks ago and it was amazing to see the baby's heartbeat. I'm due in September and already feel like I'm beginning to show. Maybe this could be due to the fact that I'm ALWAYS starving and exhausted all the time. Humm.. for some reason I don't feel like working out as much as I used to and James thinks I have a case of narcolepsy. Seriously, I can sit down to watch a favorite show and the next thing I know it's 10:00 and I feel completely out of it! I also get hot flashes. One day I was reading a book to the kids and one of them raised her hand and said, "Mrs. C, your face is really red, are you okay?" I told her I just needed a drink of water. The only thing that seems to cure it is food. Darn. I feel like eating always makes me feel better. I really can't complain though because I don't have a lot of morning sickness. Needless to say, we are beyond excited for the prune!

We are happy with this new chapter in our lives. Isn't it amazing how life works? We thought we had everything planned out a year ago and look where we are now. We didn't think we were going to have biological children (at least not anytime soon). Adoption was our first choice for starting a family. We went through a life changing event a few years ago (medical) and realized how precious life is. Life meant something different and we felt called to adopt a child. We also didn't even know if we could have biological children so adoption just felt natural to us. Then we went through everything we went through and now we see things from a different perspective. A good friend said that it took them losing a child to open their hearts to adoption and it took losing the twins to open our hearts to biological children. We still believe that adoption is in our future. For now we are going to be happy with our wonderful gift. We hope you all will continue to follow along with our journey.

On Saturday we got up early and drove to Rocky Mountain National Park to go to a snowshoeing event. It is an annual event on Valentine's Day where different snowshoe vendors let people borrow equipment to try out snowshoeing for free. We had such a great day filled with wildlife sightings and breathtaking views.

Last night James went to get a hair cut and said he had to make a detour on his way home. When he got home he was beaming with excitement. He told me that he couldn't wait to give me my Valentine's Day gift. We usually don't do anything extravagant but this year tops them all! This is what he gave me... Yes girls, I know you are jealous of this one...

We always make fun of the commercial and say we want one but never go through with the purchase. I must say that I put the snuggie on and that's all I remember from the rest of the night. Oh what snuggie bliss.............................

We all have our moments...

The other night I saw an article about the Blankets for Babies fundraiser to help Vietnamese orphanages. I read a letter written by the director of the orphanage where the twins currently reside. It broke my heart. It really just tore me apart thinking about how those babies are still living in the orphanage. I know they are loved but orphanages are struggling because of increased economic hardship. I wish something could be different and that they were home with us.
Even though we have hope for the future we still miss the boys. We have had to go on with our lives but we do have our moments where the fact that we won't bring them home really hits hard. We just pray that they are well taken care of and loved.

We haven't been the best about updating our blog as of late. That's also to say we haven't done a whole lot that we consider blog worthy. We've been house shopping (unsuccessfully). Real estate in Denver is still pretty pricey. We've also had some eye opening moments working out a budget to see what we can really afford. We didn't make much money on the sale of our home and thus we're lighter in the down payment department than we would like. We'll keep looking and hopefully sooner or later the right place will come along. The current economic times do make it a bit scary to be house shopping, but we're motivated for many reasons. Tripping over each other daily in our tiny rental house, and never being able to find anything in our one car attached storage facility are just the tip of the ice berg. So, we promise to write more frequent and interesting posts in the near future. Until then here are a couple random pictures to tide you over (since people really want pictures anyway).

Weekend

Some highlights of the weekend include: 60 degree weather, A LOT of driving around to look at neighborhoods and houses, two nice dinners out, and a day full of skiing (it wasn't the highlight of my weekend but it was beautiful at least.) I practice turning all day and kind of have it down. My problem is that I get nervous when I go too fast and lose control. Not fun. Maybe I can make it to the big ski lift next time. I should just go for it next time (easier said than done). James is already zooming down the blue slopes and I am jealous. Guys are more daring, right?

This week we are going to have weather in the high 60's and maybe even 70! Is it January??? Too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow. I will just have to leave right after school so I can make it home before dark.

We are so excited about the inauguration tomorrow. We have seen so many amazing stories of people making the journey to Washington D.C. We get to watch it with our kids tomorrow, which I hope they will always remember that momentous moment in history.

City or Suburbs??

We are renting a tiny house in a nice area in the city of Denver. The one problem with it is it is tiny. We are constantly bumping into things and a majority of our things are in boxes in our one car storage facility. We have been house hunting and just can't decide where we want to live. Many people want to live in the city of Denver because it is convenient and there are many nice areas. The problem is that people are scraping homes and building million dollar houses in many areas. We can't afford one of the bigger million + dollar homes and let me tell you that the market is saturated with them. Every street you drive on in the city there are enormous brand new homes for sell.

We love the convenience of living in the city and it is close to James's work. He just walks down the street to get on the bus and it is only about a 15 to 20 minute bus ride. We also have kind of established ourselves in the area, meaning we have new doctors, favorite restaurants, and stores. The city is nice but not as good for James to go biking. Also, the Denver public schools are okay but you have to really do research to make sure the neighborhood school is good.

The idea of living in the suburbs is appealing. It is less expensive and we would be able to get a larger house with a view of the mountains. There are many great school districts in the suburbs. The only problem is that it wouldn't be close to James's work. I have the tough commute this year because I am commuting to the suburbs and traffic is not fun. It usually takes me 30-40 minutes in the morning and 40-60 in the afternoon (on a good day). The traffic around Denver is icky and when it snows it is miserable. I had a horrible drive the other day but James's ride on the bus didn't really take any longer. I am hoping to stay at home for a few years when we have kids so I'm not really concerned with my drive. I don't want James to have to commute very far. Most of the suburbs we are looking into are around 20 miles away from downtown Denver and it may be more difficult for James to ride the bus. Then he would get stuck in traffic and come home exhausted.

Anyone have any insights? We do love the city but the suburbs would be nice too. It's hard to decide between an older, smaller home with character or a larger, newer home in the suburbs.

Still Here

Whew.. it has been a week. I'm going to let James write a post about our skiing adventure because it was kind of funny. I started back to school on Monday without kids which was nice because I got lots of work done and felt like I was ready for the kids to come on Tuesday. Tuesday morning the kids came in all excited to talk about their Christmas breaks. I was shocked when after the bell our school secretary brought a new student and his mother. I had not idea and had nothing ready. I felt horrible! That was not a good way to start my day. Then on Tuesday night I got sick and couldn't go to school on Wednesday. It was that horrible stomach sickness. I slept and got sick all day. I felt so bad that I didn't even want to turn on the t.v. I still don't feel quite normal and feel behind in so many things. The house is a complete disaster and I haven't done any school stuff this week. At least it is the weekend!

James will write a post about our skiing lessons. Let's just say that we didn't finish the third lesson because of soreness and bruises. We will probably reschedule it sometime. I will say that I do enjoy the Spring and Summer outdoor activities more than the winter but at least we have something to do in the winter.

Almost 2009

It is just so hard to believe that it is almost 2009! Wow, where did the time go? As we traveled home we reflected on 2008. It hasn't been the best year but wasn't the worst either. It was definitely a memorable year; one that we won't ever forget. From the highs of James's new job and a move to CO, to the lows of losing the twins. We can look back and do the "what if's" but instead we are thinking toward our future. This year we have been reminded that life just doesn't happen according to our plans. We have learned that life happens and you have to keep faith and deal with things as they happen.

We closed on our house on the 29th of December and are so excited to move on with our lives. 2009 is going to be a fresh start for us. I hope 2009 is wonderful for all of us.

A Lot of Traveling

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

We were in four states over six days. Even though we had to take numerous flights and had one major delay we had a great time with our families. I always get sad after Christmas because I know that we will wait another year to see some of our family.

We are happy to be back in CO and are leaving tomorrow for a skiing extravaganaza. We are staying in Vail and are taking three half day lessons. By Saturday we should be confident enough at skiing to ski on Blues. We will see! If we aren't, we are promised lessons until we can ski on the Blue. Then we will have a mountain pass for the rest of the season!

We will be off tomorrow to see our families for the holidays. We are so excited to see everyone. We haven't seen some of our extended families for a year. We'll be back before New Years and then will head up in the mountains to do some skiing. We hope to be a lot better at skiing after three days of lessons. We'll see.

It is so nice to have some time off school. My year is now about half over. Hopefully we will have good news sometime in the New Year! :)

Snow Play

I have a feeling our backyard is going to continuously be covered with snow until March. We still had snow in the backyard from the last snow and on Saturday night/Sunday morning we got more snow. We had a great time playing in the snow, especially Molly and James. Poor Molly needs snow boots because the snow got between her paws and she kept lifting them up because they were cold.
Oh yeah, did I mention how cold it was today? It was -15 degrees this morning. I have never been in a place that was that cold. James and I left the house to go to the store and the thermometer on the car said 0. I wonder if it goes below 0?

We loved the Spring and Summer here in Denver but I'm not so sure we are ready for the snow! Last week we got aobut 4 inches of snow one morning and my drive to work was not fun. It was the kind of snow that would have canceled school in St. Louis. I was still shaking when I finally arrived at school an hour after I left the house. I have to get used to it I guess because snows are frequent here but at least it is sunny and the snow is usually gone by late afternoon. People get excited when it snows and it isn't a big deal. It still feels like a big deal to me though. We are supposed to get 2-6 inches tonight through tomorrow morning and I am already dreading the drive. It will be okay and I will get used to it, I guess.

I am ready for the winter break. Two weeks off sounds so good right now. The kids are very hyper and I just need to make it through until next Friday, which will be a crazy day with the winter party and all.

The kids are really cute though. They are excited for Santa to come and have written some great letters. My 2nd graders had a music performance last week and one came to school the next day and told me that he knew the tooth fairy was hiding in the audience. They are always saying funny things. That's what makes teaching worth it.

Sold!!

We have another thing to be thankful for today. We have sold our house back in St. Louis! We are so happy to be able to move on and the closing date is December 29th!

It's been a year

It is hard to believe that we received the referral of the twins a year ago (and a few days). That was the best day of our lives and then everything unraveled before us. Some days are harder than others but those beautiful boys are never far away from our thoughts. We think about them all the time and hope that they get the family they deserve. It is difficult going into our tiny garage and seeing all of the boxes because most of them are full of things for the boys.

Sometimes we do think that we should have done things differently but we didn't have anyone to learn from (we didn't know of that many other RFE's at that time) and our agency was worthless when it came to helping us.

Even though it has been such a hard year full of heartache we are still hopeful that God has a plan for us and those boys. We still love them and always will. It is just so hard thinking about another adoption. I know our hearts will welcome a baby but what if things don't work out for us again? Having faith only gets you so far. We are still thinking about the possibilities.

We do have so much to be thankful for and we need to focus on those things. We can't live our lives with what if's because we still believe we made the best decision based on the information we had. It doesn't make it easier though.

Thanksgiving

I can still hear the slot machines in my head! We had such a great time in Vegas but it feels good to be home. Las Vegas is not a cheap place to go. Where else can you spend $60 dollars on an appetizer and two drinks at any restaurant? Walking around Vegas during the holidays you would have no idea our economy isn't doing well right now. There were people everywhere and loads of foreign tourists. At times it felt like we were in a different country.

We weren't real lucky with the slot machines (I don't like them because they just eat my money). One night when James was playing poker I had to ask for more money because I kept losing. Luckily James did well with poker and covered some of my losses.

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. We had some good meals and had tickets for KA. We went in the theater and were waiting for the show to begin. All of a sudden all of the lights went on and someone made an announcement that the show was canceled because of technical difficulties. Everyone thought he was joking and nobody got up. James realized he wasn't and we rushed to the ticket line and got to exchange for tickets on Friday night. I'm glad we got to go. It was absolutely amazing, especially the set. We were mesmerized!

We had a great time but are glad to be home. It was nice to have a mini vacation.

Vegas Baby!

It is the best day ever. James took the day off because he needed some mental health time off work. He hasn't really had any vacation days off for well over a year. At his old company he was trying to save vacation time for the trip to Vietnam. When he switched jobs and moved to CO his last day at his old company was on Friday and then he started his new job on Monday. So, today we slept in and went to our favorite breakfast place, Einstein's bagels. Yum! We are going to exercise outside and then pack.

We are headed to Vegas today! We are going to see KA tomorrow night and are just going to relax and have fun. We aren't huge gamblers but we will try to be lucky. :) We got such a great deal and will be staying at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. The hotel room is almost as big as our whole house!

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. This is our first without our families so the trip will help. We will get to see our family over Christmas.

The First Attempt

We drove up to a town close to Vail, CO, on Saturday to stay with our friends who are renting the condo for the winter. The mountains were absolutely gorgeous!

We went to a fun brewery and then spent the night playing the Wii. James made chili so that we could eat it for lunch on Sunday after skiing. The chili was a hit. The whole pot of chili disappeared on Saturday night (after we had eaten out). Oops!

Sunday morning Eric attempted to take the dogs for a walk but they wanted to play. They ran around the condo and had a great time until they got covered with hitchhiker seeds. That delayed us for quite a while. Molly enjoyed the attention as we all tried to pick them off of her. She got a nice haircut. It still looks a little lopsided and we are still finding them.

We then got dressed in our ski gear and headed for Breckenridge. The worst thing about the ski gear is the boots. They are heavy and hard to walk in. It felt like I was wearing bricks and yes, I was the slowpoke of the group. The gondola ride was a little scary but beautiful! It was windy and we did stop a few times which scared me to death but it was worth it. When we got to the top we all put on our skis and little did I know the next lift would be the trickiest. As soon as I got my skis on Eric helped me get in line as I proceeded to fall. He had to help me up and then we got to the easy lift (looked like a treadmill). I was terrified! I couldn't even stand in my skis. I told the guy that I hadn't done it before and he basically pushed me on. I took off with my skis on and somehow managed to make it on the lift. As we got up to the top of the green slopes (bunny) the hard part was getting off the lift. Somehow I managed to get off without falling and stopped. We spent most of the afternoon learning how to make a wedge. I got really good at this and anytime I felt like I was going too fast I just wedged down. I learned how to get myself up after falling which was not a small feat. James did like zooming down a little more than I did.

We survived and will try it again. Our friends really helped us but we could definitely use a few more lessons. It is frustrating when little kids zoom past you on the hill. On the last run James was switching back and forth down the hill and the next thing he knew his ski got caught and he went tumbling down. A little kid asked, "Are you okay?" That was a little hard to get used to. The little kid skis are so small!

Needless to say we are both sore but we will definitely going to do it again. Maybe some day we will be on the blue. We'll see. We love the mountains in the summer and the winter. If only we could just have a condo or house, then we would be up there every weekend. One can wish, right?

Look Out!!

We are hitting the slopes this weekend. Neither one of us has ever been skiing and I am nervous about it. I want to try it because everyone talks about it but I am not a fan of heights!! I think the worst part will be the ski lift. Our friends are renting a condo near Vail and offered to teach us. We were going to take lessons anyway but hopefully we don't embarrass ourselves.

Also, on Tuesday it was 78 degrees and on Thursday we are expecting snow or freezing drizzle. Crazy weather!!

I hope we have some interesting posts to write in the future. We'll work on it!

We love CO! It has been a great weekend, minus the car accident. We went out to dinner with friends on Friday and Saturday and spent some time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Honesty we have not experienced any rainy, cold weekends yet. The one weekend when it wasn't nice in CO we were in St. Louis for the Mizzou game and it was 80 degrees there. Today James said that he actually wanted a day where it wasn't nice outside so he wouldn't feel guilty for not being outside. I am sure one of those days will come this winter but really it is always sunny here. When it does get cold we can handle it as long as it's sunny.
